The Career Experience Practicum: Fostering the Next Generation of Business Professionals through Multinational Student Collaboration and Project-Based Learning (2025 Spring Semester)

Every semester at Tokyo International University, we offer a hands-on course called the Career Experience Practicum (CEP). This course is taught in English and in partnership with companies from various industries, with the goal to foster the next generation of global business leaders.
Students from diverse backgrounds work in teams while receiving guidance from corporate executives to develop proposals for new business ventures that address real-world social issues. Through these collaborative projects, students gain practical skills and competencies that they can apply to their future careers.

This semester (Spring 2025), we were honored to collaborate with IHI Corporation, a company engaged in diverse fields ranging from energy to large-scale infrastructure, including bridge construction. With the support of IHI Infrastructure Systems Co., Ltd., a member of IHI Group – known for its work on major projects such as building the Nh?t T?n Bridge (Vietnam-Japan Friendship Bridge) in Vietnam and the Osman Gazi Bridge in Turkey (the fourth longest suspension bridge in the world at the time of construction) – students presented innovative ideas on how to address social challenges by constructing new bridges.

The students, who represent 12 different nationalities, divided into groups and proposed various bridge-building projects to promote tourism, improve trade, and connect airports to city centers. Their presentations addressed factors such as expected benefits, construction costs, timelines, and the needs of local populations. After their presentations, students participated in an active discussion with IHI’s multinational staff, receiving helpful advice on how to launch their careers in Japan.

Tokyo International University is committed to partnering with leading global companies for our Career Experience Practicum courses and other programs to support our students’ professional development. By participating in such programs, TIU students will gain the skills and competencies they need to become impactful global citizens.
